Beggs Band of Demons recently earned its 5th OSSAA Sweepstakes Award.
So, what is a Sweepstakes, you might ask?
The OSSAA Band Sweepstakes award is the highest award a high school band in Oklahoma can earn. It is a multi-step process in which the competing band must earn a superior rating at the OSSAA Regional Marching Contest in October.
The next step is to earn a superior rating at the OSSAA District Concert Band Contest in March.
The final stage is to earn a superior rating in both stage performance and sight reading competition at the OSSAA State Concert Band Contest in late March.
If a band is awarded anything less than superior they are automatically out of the running for the Sweepstakes. Once a band has earned superior ratings at all levels of competition they receive the OSSAA Sweepstakes Award.
According to Band of Demons Director Matt Caldwell, "the Band of Demons has been fortunate enough to have earned 5 OSSAA Sweepstakes Awards over the past 11 years."
Caldwell also praised the band's success this season.
"We are beyond proud of the hard work and dedication the Band of Demons has shown in earning this award!"
