Pi Project Winner

Junior Nathan Carmichael won the Pi Award this year in Mrs. Been's math classes.  His project was among many submitted to celebrate National Pi Day March 14.   Math lovers and mathematicians celebrate pi, often approximated to 3.14, which is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. The ancient Egyptians and  Babylonians used approximations for pi when calculating the area of a circle.

Other high school students  joining Carmichael with top projects were Andrew Fulton, with his Pi slot machine; Ayden Hamilton, with his Scott Pilgram painting; and Kirsten Dooley, with her Piatnitzksaurus painting.

Bonus points  were also given to students who recited the most digits of pi correctly.  They included Maycee Lynch, who recited 59 digits; and Sandra Diaz, who recited 53 digits of pi correctly.

Joining the high school students with honors were BMS students Jaxon Remington, with his Pi basketball; and Freuny Parra, who recited 38 digits of pi correctly.
