Mrs. Harris 7th Grade Geography It's Veterans day today. Pretend you are writing a letter to a veteran thanking them for their service. Imagine what it would be like to leave your family to go to another country and fight in a war. Explain to the why you are grateful for their sacrifice and what your freedom means to you and your family. If possible, we will send these letters to a veterans group when we return to school, so please make them neat and put some effort into them. Trust me they will be appreciated by the men and women who served. 7th grade math New skill: Calculating sales tax Example of a sales tax calculation Here's a look at the sales tax formula in action with an item that costs $50 and a sales tax rate of 5%: $50 x .05 = $2.50 for a total of $52.50. The 5% got turned into the decimal number of .05 and was multiplied against $50, resulting in a sales tax amount of $2.50. Let's look at how it works with a sales tax of 9.25%. $50 x .0925 = 4.63 for a total of $54.63. Calculate the sales tax for the following problems. Don't forget to add the tax to the original amount to get the new cost. 1. $55 tax rate of 8% 2. $98 tax rate of 12% 3. $125 tax rate of 9.25% 4. $1090 sales tax rate of 15.5% 5. 2400 sales tax rate of 15%
